An example for calculating the approximate values according to DIN 18460:

The saddleback roof of a house with a length of 15 m and a width of 10 m has to be drained. The floor plan area of the house is 150 sqm.

If both sides of the house are fitted with a downpipe connection then the area to be drained is 75 sqm.

According to the chart, a half round gutter should be installed. If two drain pipes are connected for each half of the house then the area to be drained is reduced in half to 37.5 sqm.
